Nottingham Shveel 2009

To commemorate the Martyrdom and Sacrifices made by sixth Sikh Guru – Shiri Guru Arjun Dev Ji who willingly accepted to give His life in order to uphold the values of Truth, Justice and Freedom of Religion – SCYS and the Nottingham Sangat present Nottingham Shveel 2009.

On Friday 12th June from 11am till 4pm, we will be at St Peters Square in Nottingham City Centre distributing free drinks to the public and a leaflet about why we are doing this.

The reason Sikhs distribute free drinks in June every year is to remember the fifth Sikh Guru, Shiri Guru Arjun Dev Ji who remained calm & cool during the hot Indian summer as He was tortured and subsequently Martyred for upholding the values of Truth, Justice and Freedom of Religion.

So, please take a moment to reflect on the intolerable heat that our Guru must have suffered when he chose to set an example and sit on a burning red hot plate and accept martyrdom rather than live by forsaking His principles.
