Nottingham Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan 2009

The Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan is an annual religious event marking the celebration of Vasiakhi – The creation of the Khalsa. During the Nagar Kirtan the entire sangat (congregation) led by Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji sing and chant Gods Name/Praises together while walking in a parade like procession whilst free food & drinks will be distributed. Thousands of Sikhs are expected to gather together to proudly take part in the procession.

This year the Nottingham Nagar Kirtan will take place on Sunday 19th April 2009. The Nagar Kirtan will be departing from outside Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Gurdwara, Church Street at 12 noon. The route this year will be as follows:

  • Starting: Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Gurdwara, Church Street
  • Guru Nanak Dev Ji Satsang Gurdwara, Forest Road
  • Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurdwara, Noel Street
  • Baba Buddha Ji Gurdwara, Gladstone Street
  • Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Nottingham Road
  • Finishing: Ramgarhia Sabha Gurdwara, Percy Street

The Nagar Kirtan is expected to arrive at the Ramgarhia Sabha Gurdwara on Percy Street at approximately 3.00pm.

    How many people will be attending?
    Will it be bigger than the southall one?

      We normally see around 5,000 sangat on the day for the Nottingham Nagar Kirtan. We would expect the Southall Nagar Kirtan to be bigger though due to the higher number of Sikhs there.
