About the Trip
Our Annual Isle of Wight Trip is one of the most cherished events in SCYS's calendar, offering young people and families from our community the chance to step away from the everyday, explore a beautiful part of the country, and create shared memories that many would not otherwise have the opportunity to make.
For many participants, this trip represents their first experience of a residential break in a group setting. It is a chance to discover the world beyond Nottingham, build new friendships and develop the kind of confidence that comes from navigating unfamiliar environments alongside trusted peers and adults.
The trip is carefully organised and supervised by experienced SCYS staff and volunteers, ensuring that every participant feels safe, supported and genuinely included throughout.
Our Impact
Access to residential experiences is strongly linked to improved personal development outcomes for young people. Spending time away from home in a group setting, navigating new places, problem-solving, cooperating with peers and experiencing the natural world, builds independence, resilience and social confidence in ways that day-to-day provision cannot replicate.
For many of the young people who join us on the Isle of Wight, the trip is a genuinely transformative experience. It may be the first time they have seen the sea, explored coastal landscapes, or had the space to simply be themselves away from the pressures of school and home. These experiences have a lasting impact: broadening horizons, raising aspirations and strengthening the belief that the wider world is accessible and welcoming to them.

In a city context where families can live in close proximity yet rarely spend extended, unhurried time together, this matters enormously.
