About the Youth Club

Our Friday evening Youth Club runs every week from 7pm to 9pm at the Monty Hind Centre on Leen Gate in Lenton. The club is open to people of all ages, providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive space to come together, have fun and grow. Around 40 participants attend each week, enjoying a wide range of activities in a positive, supervised setting.

Whether it's football, basketball, soft play, snooker or table tennis, there is something for everyone, and far more importantly, there is always someone to talk to. Our experienced staff and volunteers create a space where everyone feels genuinely respected and heard.

The Youth Club started alongside SCYS, had a period when it was not running, and has since been restored as a regular fixture in the community. The club runs on Friday evenings, one of the highest-risk periods for young people in terms of antisocial behaviour, providing a positive, structured alternative at exactly the right moment in the week.

Our Impact

SCYS's weekly Youth Club is one of our most enduring services. It provides a structured yet flexible space where people can socialise freely, away from the pressures of the school day and, in many cases, the challenges of their home environment.

The club offers far more than recreational activities. It provides a consistent, trusted presence in the lives of those who may otherwise have limited access to safe leisure provision. Our experienced staff and volunteers create an environment in which everyone feels respected, listened to and valued. Alongside the physical activities on offer, the club serves as an informal pathway to mentoring, signposting and support, meaning that people who present with additional needs can access help in a non-stigmatising way.

Our participants reflect the diversity of Nottingham and all attend alongside one another, making the club an important site of cross-cultural friendship and social cohesion. Many who have come through our doors over the years have gone on to volunteer with us, a testament to the depth of the sense of belonging we foster.

The Youth Club directly contributes to improved mental wellbeing, reduced isolation, greater life skills and stronger community ties. Having a regular, safe and welcoming space in the community is not a luxury, it is a lifeline.

SCYS currently engages around 150 participants per week across all its programmes, with the Youth Club forming a central pillar of that provision. Its continued operation is evidence not only of sustained demand, but of the trust that families across Nottingham have placed in SCYS over many years.
